Rare Bird Sighting on the Links

The African Open Billed Stork has been spotted on The Links Golf Course. Not it's usual habitat.

The African Open Billed Stork lives south of the Sahara in mainly tropical conditions, and on the island of Madagascar. This black stork visits mainly the north eastern part of South Africa, like the Kruger National Park during the summer months for breeding. Other places for breeding are Zimbabwe, Botswana and Namibia. Sighting of the Open Billed Stork south of these areas are extremely rare. However, some changes in the normal weather patterns (higher rainfall than normal) in Zimbabwe, Botswana and northern regions of South Africa have resulted in these birds being able to travel further south. Of the ten sighted in the Southern Cape, seven have been sighted at Fancourt on The Links golf course.
